Birthday is the forty-fourth episode (second part of the twenty-second episode) of Season 1 of The Mr. Men Show.

Synopsis[]

It's Mr. Grumpy's birthday. Mr. Rude shops for the perfect present at Little Miss Helpful's gift shop. Mr. Scatterbrain gets wrapped up in gift-wrapping, and Mr. Stubborn and Mr. Messy decide that it is more fun to make a cake without any directions.

Plots[]

  • Mr. Scatterbrain's Plot: Mr. Scatterbrain tries to wrap up a gift while watching how Little Miss Sunshine does it on television, but like he would, he screws up and unknowingly has his gift (a boot) stuck on his back.
  • Mr. Rude and Little Miss Helpful's Plot: Mr. Rude goes into a gift shop run by Little Miss Helpful to choose a birthday present for Mr. Grumpy. She suggests a Mr. Happy doll, which he accepts to because he'll hate it.
  • Mr. Grumpy's Plot: Mr. Grumpy is staying at home watching television. Little Miss Chatterbox phones him offering to take him out for food but this gets on his nerves, however when Mr. Scatterbrain pops up to offer his gifts, he also gets on his nerves.
  • Mr. Messy and Mr. Stubborn's Plot: Mr. Messy and Mr. Stubborn prepare a birthday cake, though Mr. Stubborn, as usual, gets it wrong.
  • Mr. Bump's Plot (US version only): Mr. Bump and Little Miss Whoops make a piñata for the birthday party, though when Little Miss Whoops decides to test it, it does Mr. Bump more harm than good.
  • The Mr. Men and Little Miss' plot: The big moment arrives. Mr. Grumpy arrives home, and then everyone gives out a big surprise.

Bumpers[]

Mr. Bump is trying to pin the tail on the donkey, but walks past the picture of the donkey and accidentally pins it on a living creature, who chases him in anger.

  1. He pins the tail on an elephant!
  2. He pins the tail on a lion which bites him offscreen!
  3. He pins the tail onto Mr. Grumpy!
  4. He pins it on another elephant, this time a tiny one that belongs to Mr. Scatterbrain!

Trivia[]

  • An image from the official upload shows a deleted scene of Mr. Stubborn covered in the cake batter ranting at Mr. Messy. It's revealed that after the cake exploded, Mr. Stubborn was shown shouting at Mr. Messy after the former said "This stove is CHEAP!" But possibly due to time constraints, this scene was omitted.
  • This is one of three episodes to have a consistent plot, focusing on Mr. Grumpy's birthday. All segments loosely relate to the plot, with the others being "Dillydale Day" and "Circus".
  • This is the first of only two episodes where an occasion for someone is celebrated. The other is "Surprises".
  • Animation from "Fair", "Dance", and "Restaurants" is reused in the visuals for "The Birthday Song".
  • The movie Mr. Grumpy is watching is Gamma Goo From Planet 9 (originally seen in "Movies").
  • This is the only episode where there is a general main character. The others are just about the Mr. Men and what they do with things, or how they do something, or what they do in general.
  • Mr. Tickle is not at Mr. Grumpy's birthday party with everyone.
  • A book based on the episode was released in 2010
  • Coincidentally or not, this episode aired on March 5th 2008, which is when Mr. Grumpy's book became 30 years old.

Dub edits[]

  • At the end of Mr. Stubborn and Mr. Messy's plot, in the US version, Mr. Stubborn shouts "This stove is CHEAP!", which is omitted in the dub.
  • "The Birthday Song" is instead sung by Mr. Nervous, with Mr. Grumpy giving some spoken lines.
  • When Mr. Stubborn pours the baking powder into the bowl, he says "It makes it rise" in the UK dub, but not in the US dub.
  • In the UK, the word "frosting" is changed to "icing".
