Little Miss Shy's Marvellous Marbles is a story from the 1992 Annual.
Plot[]
Given the choice between playing games with others or playing by herself, Little Miss Shy always chooses the latter due to her shy nature. When it's a rainy day, she'll play card games like Patience or Solitaire. If it's a sunny day, she'll go out skipping or play marbles.
One day, while playing marbles outside her house, Mr. Clever warns Little Miss Shy of an upcoming storm and tells her to finish her game. Little Miss Shy flicks one more marble before concluding her game. Mr. Busy then runs by on his way to do some shopping before the storm. Not seeing the marble game in front of him, Mr. Busy slips on the marbles and receives a bump that would impress Mr. Bump himself. Little Miss Shy helps Mr. Busy to his feet and goes to fetch her marbles. Sadly, the marbles Little Miss Shy was playing with roll away and fall down the nearby storm drain. Little Miss Shy couldn't even mourn the loss of her marbles as the hail storm arrived; sending her indoors hiding under the bedclothes.
After the storm, Little Miss Shy returned outside and notices the smooth, round chunks of ice. Since the chunks of hail are the size of her marbles, she decides to substitute the ice for her marbles. Little Miss Shy had so much fun playing her game, she was even brave enough to let Mr. Sneeze and Mr. Snow join her for a game.
