Narrator: Welcome, to Miseryland.

(The camera zooms out to show Miseryland in full)

Narrator: We say welcome, but there isn't very much to welcome you about it. It's the most miserable place on Earth!

(The scene cuts to six worms crying in their holes)

Narrator: Miseryland worms, look like this!

(The camera zooms in on one of the worms. The scene cuts to two birds on a tree branch at sunrise)

Narrator: And when the birds wake up in the morning in Miseryland, they don't burst into song...

(A cloud hides the sun)

Narrator: They burst into tears!

(The birds are shown crying)

Narrator: It really is an awful place!

(The scene cuts to a close-up shot of Miseryland castle)

Narrator: And the King of Miseryland...

(The camera zooms out to show the castle in full)

Narrator: Is even worse!

(The scene cuts to the throne room to show a very sad King of Miseryland)

Narrator: He sits on his throne all day long with tears streaming down his face!

(The camera zooms in on the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: (sobs) I'm so unhappy! (sobs)

(The camera zooms back out)

King of Miseryland: Oh dear! Oh dear! (sobs)

(The scene transitions to show a suitcase on top of a pink car that is driving down the road to the left)

Narrator: Little Miss Sunshine had been on holiday.

(The camera zooms out to reveal Little Miss Sunshine as the one driving the car)

Narrator: She was singing happily to herself,

(The camera stops zooming out)

Narrator: As she drove along Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a signpost.

(The camera cuts to the back of a sign and zooms out from it)

Narrator: "To Miseryland"

(The camera stops zooming out as Little Miss Sunshine drives up to the sign)

Miss Sunshine: Miseryland?

(The camera shows the sign that says "To Miseryland")

Miss Sunshine (offscreen): I never heard of that place before. I'll go there for lunch.

(Little Miss Sunshine is shown driving in the direction towards Miseryland)

Narrator: And she drove off down the lane marked, "Miseryland." After a while, she came to another much larger sign which read,

(The camera cuts to a sign that reads "YOU ARE NOW ENTEREING MISERYLAND. NO SMILING. NO LAUGHING. NO CHUCKLING. GIGGLING - FORBIDDEN. BY ORDER OF THE KING)

Narrator: "No smiling. No laughing. No chuckling. Giggling is strictly forbidden. By order of the king."

(The camera cuts to a shocked Little Miss Sunshine reading the sign from her car)

Miss Sunshine: Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh dear!

(Little Miss Sunshine drives down the road and the camera cuts to the castle. The camera zooms in towards the castle)

Narrator: She came to the door of the castle.

(The camera stops zooming in. The scene transitions to a soldier guarding the door leading into the castle)

Narrator: A soldier,

(The soldier raises his left hand into the air)

Narrator: Held up his hand and stopped her.

(The soldier lowers his hand and the camera moves in closer to the soldier)

Soldier: What do you want here?

Narrator: He asked gloomily.

(The camera cuts over to Little Miss Sunshine standing in the middle of the road in front of a white fence. Little Miss Sunshine is shown smiling a huge smile and her hands over her said smile in a cheerful manner)

Miss Sunshine: I want to see the king.

Narrator: Said Little Miss Sunshine.

(The camera zooms in on Little Miss Sunshine)

Narrator: And suddenly,

(Little Miss Sunshine smiles a huge smile)

Narrator: She gave him a big smile.

(The camera cuts back to the soldier)

Soldier: You're under arrest!

(The camera zooms in on the soldier)

Narrator: Said the soldier.

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: What for?

(The camera zooms in on Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: Why am I under arrest? I've only just arrived in Miseryland.

(The camera cuts back to the solider and zooms out)

Soldier: You're under arrest for a most serious crime!

(The camera stops zooming out)

Soldier: Most serious indeed!

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine, who is surprised to hear that she committed a crime. The camera cuts back to the soldier)

Soldier: Come with me at once!

Narrator: The soldier,

(The camera cuts to inside the castle and zooms out to show the soldier marching Little Miss Sunshine through the castle to the left of the screen and out of the frame)

Narrator: marched Little Miss Sunshine through the huge door.

(The scene transitions to the soldier marching Little Miss Sunshine across the castle's courtyard to the left of the screen)

Narrator: And across the courtyard. And then they went through another huge door.

(The scene cuts to the soldier and Little Miss Sunshine going through another huge door in the castle. The camera zooms in on the amazed Little Miss Sunshine. The camera stops upon getting as close to Little Miss Sunshine as it could)

Narrator: And up an,

(The camera cuts over to an enormous staircase with blue carpeting and zooms in upwards to give the illusion of climbing the stairs)

Narrator: Enormous carpeted staircase.

(The camera stops zooming in upon reaching the top of the staircase)

Narrator: And

(The camera pans to the right along a corridor)

Narrator: Along a long, long corridor.

(The scene cuts to the long corridor to show a candelabrum on the left, a suit of armor on the right, blue carpet rolled out in the middle of the floor, and a huge door at the end of the corridor. The camera zooms in towards the cooridor)

Narrator: Then through another huge door.

(As the camera zooms in towards the door, the door is heard opening. The camera cuts inside the room and the soldier is seen marching Little Miss Sunshine into the room to the left)

Narrator: And into a gigantic room. And at the end,

(The camera cuts over to show the whole room in view and, in the middle of the back of the room, the King of Miseryland is shown sadly sitting on his blue throne)

Narrator: Of this gigantic room,

(The camera zooms in towards the King of Miseryland)

Narrator: Sat the king

(The camera cuts to a close-up of the King of Miseryland)

Narrator: Crying his eyes out.

(The camera zooms out to show the King of Miseryland sitting on his throne in full view)

King of Miseryland: Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh! (sniffs and moans)

(The camera cuts to the soldier)

Soldier: Your highness, I have arrested this person for a very serious crime!

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: What (sniffs)-what (sniffs)-what crime?

(The camera back cuts to the soldier)

Soldier: Well, she...she smiled at me.

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: She-she did what!?

(The camera back cuts to the soldier)

Soldier: She...

(The camera zooms out)

Soldier: She smiled at me.

Narrator: Repeated the Soldier.

(The camera cuts to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: But why is smiling not allowed? (laughs)

Narrator: Laughed Little Miss Sunshine.

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: She-she-she laughed at me! (whimpers and sobs)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: Why not? (chuckles)

Narrator: She chuckled.

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: She-she chuckled at me! (whimpers)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Narrator: Little Miss Sunshine giggled.

Miss Sunshine: (giggles)

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: She-she giggled!! (sobs)

Narrator: Went the King and he burst into tears!

(Little Miss Sunshine walks up to the King of Miseryland)

Miss Sunshine: But why are all these things not allowed?

Narrator: Asked Little Miss Sunshine.

King of Miseryland (while sobbing): Because...because this is Miseryland! And they've-they've never been allowed! (sobs) Dear, oh dear! Oh, I was s-so unhappy before you arrived, but now I'm twice as unhappy! (cries)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Narrator: Little Miss Sunshine looked at him.

Miss Sunshine: But wouldn't you like to be happy?

Narrator: She asked.

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: (sobs) Oh-ho, of course I would!

Narrator: Said the King.

King of Miseryland: But how can I be? (sniffs) Uh, I mean, this is Miseryland!

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine standing next to the King of Miseryland)

Miss Sunshine: Hmmm.

Narrator: Little Miss Sunshine thought.

(Little Miss Sunshine gets an idea)

Miss Sunshine: Come with me.

Narrator: She said

(The King of Miseryland is stunned to hear Little Miss Sunshine giving him an order)

King of Miseryland: You...you you c-(sniffs) You can't talk to me like that! (sniffs)

Narrator: Sniffed the King

Miss Sunshine: Ah, don't be silly. Come on!

Narrator: She replied

(The camera cuts over to Little Miss Sunshine leading the King of Miseryland across the gigantic throne room)

Narrator: And she led him across the giant room, and through,

(The camera cuts back outside the castle and zooms out from the main door)

Narrator: The huge door, to where,

(The camera cuts to Little Miss Sunshine showing the King of Miseryland her car)

Narrator: Her car was parked.

Miss Sunshine: Get in!

Narrator: She said.

(The scene cuts to Little Miss Sunshine driving down the road to the left with the King of Miseryland inaudibly crying in the back seat. The camera follows the car)

Narrator: Little Miss Sunshine drove the crying King back to the large notice.

(The scene transitions to Little Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland standing in front of the large white fence with the castle in the background. Little Miss Sunshine takes out a large pink handkerchief and offers it to the King of Miseryland)

Miss Sunshine: Dry your eyes.

Narrator: And then,

(The camera cuts to Little Miss Sunshine taking a pen out of her pink handbag. A pink handbag with an image of Mr. Small shown on the front of it)

Narrator: From her handbag,

(Little Miss Sunshine is shown using the pen to change the wording on the notice. The camera zooms out from Little Miss Sunshine and shows the notice from the back to keep the wording hidden from the viewers)

Narrator: She produced a large pen.

(The camera stops zooming out)

Narrator: Five minutes later, she was finished.

(The camera cuts over to Little Miss Sunshine holding the pen in her right hand)

Miss Sunshine: There. Now you can be happy.

Narrator: Do you know what it said now?

(The camera cuts to the notice, which now reads "YOU ARE NOW ENTEREING LAUGHTERLAND. SMILING, LAUGHING, CHUCKLING, GIGGLING - PERMITTED. BY ORDER OF THE KING)

Miss Sunshine (offscreen reading the notice): "You are now entering"

(The camera zooms in on the sign and pans downwards)

Miss Sunshine (offscreen reading the notice): "Laughterland." "Smiling, laughing, chuckling, giggling, permitted. By order of the King"

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: But, um,

(Little Miss Sunshine is surprised by the King's reaction)

King of Miseryland: I...I don't know how to happy.

(Little Miss Sunshine smiles as she gets an idea)

King of Miseryland: I mean I've...I've never tried it.

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine holding the pen in her right hand)

Miss Sunshine: Nonsense! It's really, very easy. Just you do this.

(Little Miss Sunshine smiles a huge smile)

Narrator: And she smiled a big smile.

(The camera cuts over to the King of Miseryland struggling to smile a smile)

Narrator: The King tried to smile.

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine holding the pen in her right hand)

Miss Sunshine: Not bad. Try this! (chuckles)

Narrator: And she gave a little chuckle.

(The camera cuts back over to the King of Miseryland as he starts chuckling nervously)

Narrator: And the King tried a little chuckle.

King of Miseryland: Um... (chuckles with slight hesitation)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine talking to the King of Miseryland)

Miss Sunshine: Getting better!

Narrator: Then she giggled.

(The camera cuts over to Little Miss Sunshine standing in the frame alone)

Miss Sunshine: (giggles)

Narrator: And the King,

(The camera cuts over to the King of Miseryland smiling much more comfortably, looking naturally happy)

Narrator: Tried a giggle.

King of Miseryland: (giggles happily)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: You've got it!

Narrator: Then she laughed.

Miss Sunshine: (laughs)

(The camera cuts over to the King of Miseryland and starts shaking with all the laughter)

King of Miseryland: S-so-so I, (laughs)

(The camera cuts over to the Soldier standing to the left of the King of Miseryland and zooms out from the Soldier to show him, the King of Miseryland, and Little Miss Sunshine all laughing together. Little Miss Sunshine is standing to the right of the King of Miseryland and the King of Miseryland is in between both Little Miss Sunshine and the Soldier)

Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland: (laughs)

King of Miseryland: Say yes! So...so I...uh

(The camera stops zooming out)

King of Miseryland: So I have!

Narrator (overlap): He laughed!

Miss Sunshine (overlap): (laughs)

King of Miseryland: Yes! (laughs)

Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland: (laughs)

King of Miseryland: Now, as you see now, I'm the King of Laughterland!

Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland: (laughs)

(The scene transition to Happyland later that evening. The camera zooms out to show the town)

Narrator: As Little Miss Sunshine arrived home, there was Mr. Happy,

(The scene transitions to show Mr. Happy standing next to Little Miss Sunshine's car having a chat with Little Miss Sunshine)

Narrator: Out for an evening stroll.

Mr. Happy: Hello.

Narrator: He grinned.

Mr. Happy: Where've you been?

(The camera zooms in towards Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: Miseryland.

Narrator: She replied.

(The camera cuts over to Mr. Happy)

Mr. Happy: Miseryland? I didn't know there was such a place.

(The camera zooms out to show both Little Miss Sunshine and Mr. Happy)

Miss Sunshine: (laughing) Well, actually, there isn't!

Mr. Happy: Oh! (chuckles) Oh! (chuckles)

Mr. Happy and Miss Sunshine: (laughing)

Mr. Happy: Oh, I see!

Mr. Happy and Miss Sunshine: (laughing)

(Mr. Happy looks at the viewers in confusion as the screen fades to black. The episode ends here)

(The camera back cuts to the soldier)

Soldier: She...

(The camera zooms out)

Soldier: (stammers) She smiled at me.

(The camera cuts to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: But why on Earth is smiling not allowed? (laughs)

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: A-a-and she's-she's laughing at me too! (whimpers and sobs)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: Why not? (chuckles)

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: She...she chuckled at me! She-she giggled too!

(The camera cuts back and zooms out from Little Miss Sunshine)

Narrator: And the king burst into tears.

King of Miseryland (offscreen and overlap): (sobs)

Miss Sunshine (overlap): Oh, for heaven's sake! My goodness!

(The camera cuts back to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: (sobs)

Soldier (offscreen): This sort of thing is just not allowed!

(Little Miss Sunshine walks up to the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: (trembles a sob) Because...because this is Miseryland! And, uh, and-and-and they have never been allowed! Oh! Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh, I was so unhappy before you arrived, but now I'm twice as unhappy! (cries)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: (giggles) But wouldn't you really like to be happy?

Narrator: Little Miss Sunshine thought for a moment.

(Little Miss Sunshine gets an idea)

Miss Sunshine (offscreen reading the sign): "Smiling, laughing, chuckling, giggling, are permitted. By order of the King"

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland)

King of Miseryland: But-but, uh,

(Little Miss Sunshine is surprised by the King's reaction)

King of Miseryland: I-I-I don't know how to happy.

(Little Miss Sunshine smiles as she gets an idea)

King of Miseryland: I-I've never, I've never tried it

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine holding the pen in her right hand)

Miss Sunshine: Oh, it's really, very easy. Just do this.

(Little Miss Sunshine smiles a huge smile)

Narrator: She smiled a great big smile.

(The camera cuts over to the King of Miseryland struggling to smile a smile)

Narrator: Then, the King tried a smile too.

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine holding the pen in her right hand)

Miss Sunshine: That's not bad. Try this! (chuckles)

Narrator: And she gave a little chuckle.

(The camera cuts back over to the King of Miseryland as he starts chuckling nervously)

Narrator: And then the King tried a chuckle.

King of Miseryland: (chuckles with slight hesitation)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine talking to the King of Miseryland)

Miss Sunshine: You're getting better!

Narrator: Then she giggled.

(The camera cuts over to Little Miss Sunshine standing in the frame alone)

Miss Sunshine: (giggles)

Narrator: And then,

(The camera cuts over to the King of Miseryland smiling much more comfortably, looking naturally happy)

Narrator: The King giggled.

King of Miseryland: (giggles happily)

(The camera cuts back to Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: You've got it!

Narrator: And then she laughed.

Miss Sunshine: (laughs)

(The camera cuts over to the King of Miseryland and starts shaking with all the laughter)

King of Miseryland: (laughs) So-so,

(The camera cuts over to the Soldier standing to the left of the King of Miseryland and zooms out from the Soldier to show him, the King of Miseryland, and Little Miss Sunshine all laughing together. Little Miss Sunshine is standing to the right of the King of Miseryland and the King of Miseryland is in between both Little Miss Sunshine and the Soldier)

King of Miseryland: So-so I have!

Miss Sunshine: (laughs)

(The camera stops zooming out)

King of Miseryland: (laughs)

Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland: (laughs)

King of Miseryland: Yes! (laughs)

Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland: (laughs)

King of Miseryland: Now, I'm the King of Laughterland!

Miss Sunshine and the King of Miseryland: (laughs)

(The scene transition to Happyland later that evening. The camera zooms out to show the town)

Narrator: As Little Miss Sunshine arrived home, there was Mr. Happy,

(The camera stops zooming out. The scene transitions to show Mr. Happy standing next to Little Miss Sunshine's car having a chat with Little Miss Sunshine)

Narrator: Out for an evening stroll.

Mr. Happy: Hello. (giggles), Where've you been?

(The camera zooms in towards Little Miss Sunshine)

Miss Sunshine: Miseryland. (giggles)

(The camera cuts over to Mr. Happy)

Miss Sunshine (offscreen and overlap): (giggles)

Mr. Happy (overlap): Miseryland?

Mr. Happy: I didn't know there was such a place.

(The camera zooms out to show both Little Miss Sunshine and Mr. Happy)

Miss Sunshine: (laughing) Actually, there isn't!

Mr. Happy: Oh! I see.

Mr. Happy and Miss Sunshine: (laughing)

Miss Sunshine: (laughing)

(Mr. Happy looks at the viewers in confusion as the screen fades to black. The episode ends here)
