(The episode begins showing Mr. Bump without his bandages)
Narrator: This is the sad story of Mr. Bump.
(While the narration continues, bandages begin appearing on Mr. Bump, starting with a plaster on his head. Mr. Bump frowns)
Narrator: The trouble was...
(A second plaster appears on Mr. Bump's head. Mr. Bump blinks sadly)
Narrator: ...that..
(The top bandage appears on Mr. Bump's head)
Narrator: ...Mr. Bump just could not...
(A second bandage appears underneath the first one)
Narrator: ...help having little...
(A third bandage appears underneath the first one)
Narrator: ...accidents. If there was...
(A bandage appears on Mr. Bump's waist)
Narrator: ...something for Mr. Bump...
(A second bandage appears underneath the first one on Mr. Bump's waist)
Narrator: ...to bump into...
(The scene changes from a white background to a street. The plasters underneath Mr. Bump's bandages also disappear)
Narrator: ...he'd bump into it, alright.
(The camera zooms out a little bit. Mr. Bump smiles and starts walking to the left of the screen. The camera stops zooming out once Mr. Bump starts walking)
Narrator: For instance, if you were to see Mr. Bump walking down the street in your town, and if there happened to be something to bump into down that street.
(A lamppost appears in the frame as Mr. Bump continues walking)
Narrator: Then you'd know what would happen, don't you?
(Mr. Bump walks into the lamppost and falls down as the lamppost shakes for a few seconds)
Narrator: BUMP!
(The scene fades to a house and the camera zooms out to show the house in full)
Narrator: Mr. Bump was just the same at home. He lived in an extremely nice home. But even there...
(The camera stops zooming out)
Narrator: ...he couldn't help having those little accidents.
(The sun sets and the moon with a sleeping face on it comes out. However, a storm comes that very same evening. Cut to the house's roof, where, as some clouds are passing by and it rains, lightning strikes the chimney pot twice, breaking it in two parts and bending the top half. The storm continues until the sun rises again)
Narrator: For instance, one morning, when Mr. Bump, went outside his house,
(Mr. Bump is shown coming out of his house through the front door)
Narrator: He noticed that the,
(The camera cuts to a zoomed in shot of the broken chimney pot)
Narrator: Chimney pot had come loose in a storm the night before.
(The camera cuts back to Mr. Bump)
Mr. Bump (thinking): I must fix that before it falls off
Narrator: Thought Mr. Bump to himself.
(Mr. Bump is shown walking down his garden path to the right of the screen)
Narrator: And he hurried off to his garden shed to fetch a ladder.
(Mr. Bump walks out of the frame and the camera cuts over to the garden shed. Sounds of clattering, crashing, and bumping are heard. The front and back doors keep opening and closing and the roof of the shed even lifts as the ladder is raised into the air. Eventually, Mr. Bump manages to get the ladder out of the shed by opening both the front and back doors. The camera cuts to Mr. Bump walking down his garden path carrying the ladder on his shoulders to the left of the screen)
Narrator: It was a very long ladder.
(Mr. Bump walks into the frame holding the end of the long ladder on his shoulders)
Narrator: Mr. Bump walked up the garden path with the ladder on his shoulder.
(The camera cuts back to Mr. Bump's house/ Mr. Bump walks into the frame from the right carrying the ladder. Once Mr. Bump reaches his house, the camera zooms in on Mr. Bump and Mr. Bump leans up so his face is looking at the upper right corner of the screen)
Narrator: He turned corner of the garden path.
(The top of the long ladder breaks the living room window)
Narrator: Crash! Went the living room window.
(The camera cuts back to Mr. Bump, who becomes worried upon hearing the crashing sound. Mr. Bump is still carrying the ladder)
Mr. Bump (thinking): Oh dear!
Narrator: Thought Mr. Bump.
(Mr. Bump turns while carrying the ladder and the ladder ends up pointing to the upper left corner)
Narrator: And he turned to see what had happened.
(The top of the long ladder breaks the kitchen window)
Narrator: Crash! Went the kitchen window behind him.
(The camera cuts back to Mr. Bump, who becomes worried upon hearing the crashing sound. Mr. Bump is still holding the ladder but he is now facing to the left)
Mr. Bump (thinking): Oh dear!
Narrator: Thought Mr. Bump again. And he rested the ladder against the wall of the house,
(Mr. Bump is shown straightening the ladder upwards)
Narrator: So he could,
(The camera cuts to the bedroom window on the second floor of the house)
Narrator: Climb up onto the roof,
(The ladder rises up next to the bedroom window)
Narrator: To mend the chimney pot.
(The top of the long ladder breaks the bedroom window. Then the ladder leans on the wall of the house)
Narrator: Crash! Went the bedroom window .
(The camera cuts to show Mr. Bump's house after his failed attempt to mend the chimney pot. The chimney pot is still loose, the roof has a black stain, all five windows are broken, and the door is open)
Narrator: So, you can see how Mr. Bump had his little accidents!
Bird (offscreen): (chirping)
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump standing in the middle of a room holding a broken broom. Mr. Bump has the handle in his left hand and the part of the broom with the bristles at the end of it in his right hand. The camera zooms out from Mr. Bump looking at the bristle end of the broom in his right hand)
Narrator: Mr. Bump had many jobs, but somehow they never seemed to last very long.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Bump working as a zookeeper only for the camera to zoom out to show that a carnivorous animal escaped while Mr. Bump was trying to feed it meat)
Narrator: As soon as anything got lost,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump accidentally breaking a mirror he was looking at. The sound of glass breaking is heard)
Narrator: Or broken,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump sitting in a chair that suddenly falls apart as Mr. Bump was trying to write at a desk. The sound of wood snapping is heard)
Narrator: Or splintered,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump working at a museum. Mr. Bump is shown trying to dust a priceless vase but accidentally breaks it. The sound of glass shattering is heard as the camera zooms in on the damaged vase)
Narrator: Or chipped,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump working as a gondolier for an unknown Little Miss. The oar Mr. Bump was using snaps in half and Mr. Bump falls out of the boat. The sound of the oar snapping is heard)
Narrator: Or snapped,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump working trying to carve a statue of himself out of stone. Unfortunately, Mr. Bump chisels incorrectly and causes the statue to gain a large crack and fall apart. The sound of the stone cracking is heard)
Narrator: Or cracked,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump working working as a tailor only to ruin the suit completely by cutting it in half. The sounds of scissors snipping fabric is heard as the camera zooms out)
Narrator: Or torn,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump working as a plumber but fails to fix the plumbing and a pipe ends up bursting and flooding the room full of water. The sound of water gushing is heard)
Narrator: Or burst,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump working as a chauffer. Mr. Bump fails to do his job properly as he accidentally bursts the tire on something and fails to fix it. The sound of the tire squeaking is heard)
Narrator: Or wrenched
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump working as a lorry driver but ends up failing to parallel park properly and crushes the front of a green car and the back of a pink car. A crunching sound is heard as the camera pans to the right of the screen)
Narrator: Or crunched,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump trying to hand up a poster only for the poster to rip in half as he was gluing it to the wall. The sound of the poster tearing into two is heard)
Narrator: Or split,
(The camera cuts to show Mr. Bump riding on a sailboat with the sail torn. The sound of the sail ripping is heard)
Narrator: Or slit,
(The sail is heard tearing more as the camera zooms out)
Narrator: Guess who got the blame?
(The camera then cuts to Mr. Bump walking while carrying a churn of milk on a farm. He is walking towards the right of the screen)
Narrator: For instance, when Mr. Bump worked on a farm.
Chickens (offscreen and overlap): (clucking)
Pigs (offscreen and overlap): (oinking)
Cows (offscreen and overlap): (mooing)
Narrator: He tripped over,
(The farm dog appears in Mr. Bump's way. Mr. Bump doesn't notice and continues walking)
Narrator: The farm dog.
(The farm dog leaps in front of Mr. Bump. The camera zooms in and spins clockwise in a fast motion. The sound of the container holding the milk is heard landing on the ground with a thud. Then the camera cuts to Mr. Bump lying on his back with the dog's front paws on Mr. Bump's left side. All the milk in the container is shown to have spilt out on the ground next to Mr. Bump)
Narrator: And spilt the milk.
(The farm cat is shown lapping up the spilt milk)
Narrator: The farm cat lapped it up.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Bump holding a bunch of letters in his left hand)
Narrator: For instance,
(The camera zooms out to show Mr. Bump had gotten his right hand stuck in the pillar box)
Narrator: When Mr. Bump was a postman, he got his hand stuck in the pillar box.
(The scene transitions to a fire truck with two firemen riding in it down the street to the right of the screen. The camera follows them. One of the men is shown ringing a bell meant to warn cars to move out of their way)
Narrator: And they comes the fire brigade come and set him free.
(The camera zooms in on the fireman ringing the bell then zooms back out just as the firetruck stops upon reaching Mr. Bump. Two firemen are shown pulling Mr. Bump in an effort to free his hand from the pillar box. The scene then cuts to Mr. Bump hammering something)
Narrator: For instance,
(The camera zooms out to reveal that Mr. Bump is hammering a nail into a plank of wood)
Narrator: When Mr. Bump was a carpenter he found that, when he was hammering nails,
(The camera stops zooming out)
Narrator: He hammered his thumb most of the time and the nail hardly at all.
(Mr. Bump is shown missing the nail he is supposed to be hammering and instead hammers his thumb several times. The camera then cuts over to Mr. Bump looking at his injured thumb. The scene cuts to Mr. Bump walking to the left of the screen holding a suitcase in his right hand)
Narrator: In order to recover from this series of rather unfortunate happenings, Mr. Bump decided to go away for holiday.
(The scene cuts to a train chugging away from a town to the right of the screen)
Narrator: There, he could think about what sort of job he could do where he wouldn't be such a nuisance to everybody. So, he set off to the station to catch a train to the seaside.
(Mr. Bump is shown sitting inside the train as the train itself chugs to the right. The camera shows this by following the train as it moves along the tracks. The scene cuts to Mr. Bump standing on a boat in the middle of the sea near a cliff)
Seagull (offscreen): (cawing)
Narrator: While Mr. Bump was on holiday, several things happened.
(Mr. Bump falls off the boat and splashes into the sea. Mr. Bump surfaces and floats on his left side)
Narrator: For instance, he fell off a boat,
(The camera zooms back out to show the boat Mr. Bump was on sailing away. It sails to the right out of the frame)
Narrator: Into the sea.
(A lifeboat appears from behind the cliff and the camera zooms in towards it)
Narrator: And the lifeboat had to come and rescue him.
Seagull (offscreen): (cawing)
(The scene cuts to the beach. On the beack, Mr. Bump is seen wearing sunglasses, carrying a bottle of suntan lotion in his right hand, and walking to the left of the scene with the camera following him)
Narrator: For instance, one day when he was quietly walking along the beach minding his own business,
(A bucket tumbles along the beach and gets stuck on Mr. Bump's left foot. Mr. Bump continues hobbling down the beach)
Narrator: He got his foot stuck in a bucket. And as he couldn't get it off, he had to hop around with it on his foot for hours.
(Mr. Bump continues hopping along the beach until he fell into a deep hole in the sand. Mr. Bump lands with a loud thud)
Narrator: And as he hopped along,
(Mr. Bump raises his hand out of the hole but is unable to pull himself out of it and, thus, is only able to wave his hand around. The sky turns dark as day turns into night)
Narrator: He hopped straight into a large hole that somebody had dug.
(Mr. Bump's hand retracts back into the hole)
Narrator: And he had to stay there all night because he couldn't climb out on his own.
Seagull (offscreen): (cawing)
(The scene cuts to a nice sunny day on the beach. The camera zooms out from the sun in the sky to show the sea in the background of the beach)
Narrator: However, despite all these little accidents,
(The camera continues zooming out and shows Mr. Bump on the beach, lying on a towel, and wearing his sunglasses while sunbathing. He also has bandages on his left foot due to the bucket that was on it earlier. The bottle of suntan lotion is also on the towel)
Seagull (offscreen): (cawing)
Narrator: Despite all these little accidents, Mr. Bump enjoyed his holiday.
(The camera stops zooming out)
Narrator: And while he was there, he had a splendid idea,
(The camera zooms in towards Mr. Bump)
Narrator: About what sort of job he should do. It was quite the best idea Mr. Bump had ever had. An absolutely splendid idea!
(The scene transitions to the countryside where tons of apple trees are shown growing in the several fields near a small farmhouse)
Birds (offscreen): (tweeting)
(The camera zooms in towards one of the several apple orchards on the farm)
Birds (offscreen): (tweeting)
(The camera stops zooming towards the apple orchard and cuts to a man with a gray mustache wearing a brown hat and standing in the middle of a few apple trees in said orchard)
Birds (offscreen and overlap): (tweeting)
Narrator (overlap): And now, Mr. Bump happily works for Mr. Barley,
(The camera zooms out to show Mr. Barley in the frame)
Narrator: The farmer.
Birds (offscreen): (tweeting)
Narrator (overlap): Mr. Barley has a rather large apple orchard,
Birds (offscreen and overlap): (tweeting)
(The camera stops zooming out)
Birds (offscreen and overlap): (tweeting)
Narrator (overlap): On his farm.
(Mr. Barley points to the left)
Birds (offscreen and overlap): (tweeting)
Narrator (overlap): And that's where Mr. Bump works.
Birds (offscreen): (tweeting)
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Bump walking to the right of the screen (with the camera following him) all around the apple orchard)
Narrator: Mr. Bump's job is picking apples.
(The camera pans in closer to Mr. Bump as he continues walking around)
Narrator: But he doesn't use a ladder to climb up the tree to pick the apples, like other apple pickers. Oh no. (chuckles)
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump walking to the left of the screen (with the camera following him) all around the apple orchard)
Narrator: No, Mr. Bump has a much better way of picking apples than that!
(The camera pans in closer to Mr. Bump as he continues walking around)
Narrator: He just walks about! And before long,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump walking to the right of the screen (with the camera following him) all around the apple orchard)
Narrator: Mr. Bump being Mr. Bump...walks into a tree.
(Mr. Bump bumps into a tree. Mr. Bump steps back as the tree shakes. The camera cuts to an apple falling down from the tree Mr. Bump bumped into)
Narrator: Down falls an apple.
(Mr. Bump catches the apple)
Narrator: And Mr. Bump catches it. This makes,
(The camera cuts to Mr. Bump walking to the left of the screen (with the camera following him) all around the apple orchard)
Narrator: The job of apple picking much easier.
(Mr. Bump bumps into a tree. Mr. Bump steps back as the tree shakes. The camera zooms in towards Mr. Bump)
Narrator: Mr. Bump,
(Mr. Bump catches an apple that falls from the tree)
Narrator: Is very pleased about his new job.
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Barley and zooms out from his face)
Narrator: And Mr. Barley is very pleased about his new apple picker.
(The camera back cuts to Mr. Bump walking to the right of the screen (with the camera following him) all around the apple orchard. Mr. Bump bumps into a tree. Mr. Bump steps back as the tree shakes. The camera zooms in on Mr. Bump. Mr. Bump catches an apple that falls from the tree)
Narrator: So, you see,
