What To Do[]
- Sieve the flour onto a plate
- Put the margarine and caster sugar into a large bowl and cream them together with a wooden spoon
- Break the egg into a small bowl and beat with a fork
- Add the beaten egg to the creamed margarine and sugar mixture. Beat everything with the wooden spoon until smooth
- Gradually add the plain flour to the mixture in the big bowl. Mix well in.
- Turn the dough on to a lightly floured work surface and knead to make it smooth on one side. Roll out to 3 mm thick with a rolling pin
- Ask a grown-up to set the oven.
- Gas oven: Mark 5
- Electric Oven: 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 180 degrees Celsius)
- Cut out the biscuits with pastry cutters. If you have made your own shapes, use a knife. Re-roll leftover dough.
- Using the palette knife, carefully place the biscuits on a greased baking tray. Bake in top part of oven for 10 minutes or until biscuits are light brown. Remove and cool on a wire tray
- Sieve the icing sugar into a small bowl. Add just enough warm water to make a stiff mixture. Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. You may need to add more sugar.
- Divide the mixture into four cups with a teaspoon. Add a few drops of different food colouring to three cups. Leave one white.
- When the biscuits have cooled, coat with icing using a palette knife. Then decorate with tiny jellies and silver balls
