Mr. Dizzy has gotten himself some books, however, the pig and elephant from his story decide to look at what he has and make fun of him for only getting picture books. He confides to Mr. Cheerful and Little Miss Greedy about his problem before a pair of children come and ask him if they can read some of the books he has. Mr. Dizzy lets them look through his books as Miss Greedy and Mr. Cheerful remind him about how children do still like him for who he is for his kindness, even to the point where he could promise kids the moon. Mr. Dizzy decides to try and do just that, but he is unable to reach it and ends up falling into a pond when he sees the moon's reflection in it.
The next morning, Farmer Fields tells Mr. Cheerful and Miss Greedy about his unusual evening before Mr. Dizzy comes around. He tells them about how he's actually trying to get the moon so he can fulfill his promise to the children. Miss Greedy, Mr. Cheerful and Farmer Fields decide to help him, so when Mr. Dizzy tries to grab it, Mr. Cheerful puts a cardboard cutout of a crescent moon in a cloud so Mr. Dizzy can grab the "moon" with his net.
Mr. Dizzy arrives the next morning with a wagon full of moons, for he felt one wouldn't be enough to make the kids happy so he made more using silver cardboard. The kids come and are most happy to see all the moons in the wagon and Mr. Dizzy requests to Miss Greedy, Mr. Cheerful and Farmer Fields to keep this whole thing a secret so the kids believe it's the real moon.
This episode is also available on "Mr. Clever's Invention" and other stories 2006/2001 Australian DVD.
The idiom "promising the moon" means to impress someone by promising something undoable. In this episode, Mr. Dizzy, being Mr. Dizzy, takes the idiom literally.
