(The episode begins with the sun setting behind Crosspatch Cottage, which is where Mr. Grumpy lived)
Narrator: It was a lovely summer evening.
(The screen gets darker to reflect that it's nighttime)
Narrator: And in Crosspatch Cottage...
(The camera zooms in on the lit window in Crosspatch Cottage)
Owl (offscreen): (hoots)
Narrator: ...Mr. Grumpy was at home.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Grumpy sitting in an armchair)
Narrator: He sat down in an armchair...
(Mr. Grumpy grabs a book from the right side of the screen)
Narrator: ...and picked up a book.
(The camera zooms in on Mr. Grumpy as he becomes annoyed with the book)
Narrator: And then... Do you know what he did?
(The camera cuts to a close-up of Mr. Grumpy tearing out a page)
Narrator: He tore all the pages out of it!
(The camera cuts to Mr. Grumpy with pieces of paper falling everywhere)
Narrator: Every one!
(The camera cuts to a close-up of Mr. Grumpy tearing out three more pages with the camera cutting closer with each tear)
Narrator: Mr. Grumpy can't STAND books.
(The camera cuts back to Mr. Grumpy with more pieces of paper falling everywhere)
Narrator: He has a shocking bad temper.
(The camera cuts to another close-up of Mr. Grumpy tearing out a page)
Narrator: In fact he's quite the most bad tempered person...
(The camera zooms in on the second page he rips)
Narrator: ...you could imagine.
(The camera zooms in on the third page he rips and again for the fourth page. The camera then zooms back to show Mr. Grumpy sitting in his armchair, which is surrounded by ripped out pages. The camera then zooms in on Mr. Grumpy's face)
Narrator: Grumpy by name and even more grumpy by nature.
(The camera stops zooming out upon reaching Mr. Grumpy's eyes. Then the scene transitions to outside Crosspatch Cottage the following day)
Narrator: The following morning...
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Grumpy's garden)
Narrator: ...he was out in his garden...
(Mr. Grumpy walks into the frame towards the right. Mr. Grumpy is holding flowers in both of his hands with the stems pointing upwards)
Narrator: ...pulling up flowers. He could stand pretty flowers growing in his garden. When out of the corner of his eye...
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Happy, who has walked into Mr. Grumpy's garden)
Narrator: ...stood a figure.
(The camera zooms out to show Mr. Grumpy and Mr. Happy in the same frame)
Narrator: It was Mr. Happy.
(The camera stops zooming out)
Mr. Happy: Good morning.
Narrator: Said Mr. Happy.
Mr. Grumpy: Good?
Narrator: Said Mr. Grumpy.
(Mr. Happy's face twists in surprise)
Mr. Grumpy: What's good about it!?
Mr. Happy: But-
Narrator: Said Mr. Happy.
Mr. Grumpy: But nothing!
Narrator: Went on Mr. Grumpy.
(Mr. Happy's face twists in surprise)
Mr. Grumpy: Get out of my garden!
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Happy)
Mr. Happy: I beg your pardon?
Narrator: Said Mr. Happy.
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Grumpy)
Mr. Grumpy: You heard me!
Narrator: Snapped Mr. Grumpy.
Mr. Grumpy: GO AWAY!
(The camera shows Mr. Grumpy and Mr. Happy in the same frame)
Mr. Happy (while laughing): I say!
Narrator: Laughed Mr. Happy.
Mr. Happy: You're a bad-tempered fellow.
(The camera cuts back over to Mr. Grumpy)
Mr. Grumpy: Humph!
Narrator: Grunted Mr. Grumpy.
(The camera cuts back over to Mr. Happy)
Mr. Happy: And...
Narrator: Went on Mr. Happy.
Mr. Happy: ...Bad-tempered fellows need to change their ways.
(The camera cuts back over to Mr. Grumpy)
Mr. Grumpy: Rubbish!
Narrator: Snorted Mr. Grumpy.
(Mr. Grumpy walks to the right of the screen out of the frame. The camera zooms in on Mr. Happy and Mr. Grumpy's feet)
Narrator: And went into his cottage deliberately stepping on Mr. Happy's foot...
(Mr. Grumpy purposefully steps on Mr. Happy's right foot)
Narrator: ...as he passed him!
(The camera zooms out to show Mr. Happy holding his right foot in pain)
Mr. Happy: OOOOH!! OH!
Narrator: Said Mr. Happy.
(The camera cuts to Mr. Grumpy slamming the front door of Crosspatch Cottage shut)
Narrator: BANG! Went the door of Crosspatch Cottage.
(The camera zooms in on the door of Crosspatch Cottage)
Narrator: As Mr. Grumpy slammed it behind him.
(The camera cuts to an upset Mr. Happy holding his right foot in pain. The camera pans over to the left until Mr. Happy is in the center of the frame)
Narrator: Mr. Happy stood there looking not quite so happy as he normally does.
(The camera stops moving. Mr. Happy tries putting his foot down but it still hurt too much to put on the ground. So he grabs it again)
Narrator: His foot hurt.
(Mr. Happy continues trying to put his foot back down as he starts wondering what to do about Mr. Grumpy)
Narrator: He thought.
(Mr. Happy tries to come up with a plan while holding his right foot)
Narrator: And thought. And thought some more.
(Mr. Happy scratches his head with his other hand just as an idea comes to him)
Narrator: Then, he had an idea.
(Mr. Happy puts his foot down, smiles, and the camera zooms out to show an idea lightbulb appearing over Mr. Happy's head)
Narrator: He smiled and went to see Mr. Tickle.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Happy telling Mr. Tickle his plan. Mr. Happy leans towards Mr. Tickle to whisper his idea. The camera zooms out from both of them so they are in the same frame)
Narrator: Mr. Happy told Mr. Tickle...
(The camera stops zooming out)
Narrator: ...of his idea of how to get Mr. Grumpy to change his ways. And Mr. Tickle...
(Mr. Tickle grins a large grin)
Narrator: ..grinned the sort of grin that goes from...
(The camera zooms in towards Mr. Tickle but Mr. Happy is still in the frame)
Narrator: ...ear to ear. Uh, that is, if you have ears. Which he doesn't.
(The camera stops zooming in)
Mr. Tickle: Oh!
(Mr. Tickle rubs his hands together and Mr. Happy smiles)
Narrator: He grinned, rubbing the hands at the end of those extraordinarily long arms of his together.
Mr. Tickle: That sounds fun!
(The camera zooms out and the scene transitions to a village street. The camera zooms in on a pink building with a brown roof and a blue chimney)
Narrator: That afternoon, Mr. Grumpy went into town. Shopping.
(A bell is heard ringing and the scene transitions to the butcher's. Mr. Grumpy is there along with the butcher, Mr. Meat)
Narrator: He walked into Mr. Meat's shop. Mr. Meat was a butcher.
Mr. Grumpy: Give me some sausages!
Narrator: Snapped Mr. Grumpy.
Mr. Grumpy: And be quick about it!
(The camera zooms in towards Mr. Meat)
Narrator: Poor Mr. Meat, who was frightened of Mr. Grumpy, did as he was told.
(The camera stops zooming in. Mr. Meat takes out sausages wrapped in a parcel. Upon taking out the parcel, the camera pans to the left towards Mr. Grumpy and the shop doorway)
Narrator: But, as he was doing as he was told, something appeared through his shop doorway.
(The camera stops moving and one of Mr. Tickle's hands appears through the doorway)
Narrator: Do you know what it was?
(Mr. Tickle's hand waves around then the extraordinarily long arm that the hand was attached to stretches towards Mr. Grumpy and prepares to tickle him)
Narrator: It was an extraordinarily long...
(The camera zooms in on Mr. Tickle's hand as it prepares to tickle Mr. Grumpy's head)
Narrator: ...arm belonging to...
(The camera cuts outside and zooms out to show Mr. Tickle outside the shop)
Narrator: (laughs) Well, you can guess who it belonged to, can't you.
(Mr. Tickle winks to the viewers as the camera continues zooming out)
Narrator: That extraordinarily...
(The camera cuts back into the shop and follows Mr. Tickle's arm by panning to the right)
Narrator: ...long arm of Mr. Tickle's came in through the...
(The camera stops panning to the right and pans upwards)
Narrator: ...door, and across the shop...
(The camera turns 180 degrees clockwise)
Narrator: ...up to Mr. Grumpy...
(The camera pans down, and finally cuts to Mr. Tickle tickling Mr. Grumpy from behind)
Narrator: ...and tickled him.
(Mr. Grumpy drops his sausages)
Mr. Grumpy: Oh!
(The sausages land on the floor with a thud offscreen. The camera zooms in on Mr. Grumpy's eyes)
Narrator: Squeaked Mr. Grumpy in alarm.
(The camera stops zooming in)
Narrator: Dropping his sausages.
(Mr. Grumpy looks to the right then to the left)
Narrator: And looking around to see what had happened.
(The camera zooms out while Mr. Grumpy looks around)
Narrator: But could he see anything? He could not.
(The camera stops zooming out)
Mr. Grumpy: Humph!
Narrator: Grunted Mr. Grumpy.
(The scene transitions to inside a shop where an old woman wearing glasses and with her hair in buns is shown standing inside)
Narrator: And picked up his sausages, and went next door to the cake shop.
(A loud crash is heard that makes her wince and the screen shake)
Narrator: Crash went the door of the shop.
(The camera zooms out to show Mr. Grumpy holding his sausages. She is shown holding a cake)
Mr. Grumpy: Give me a cake!
Narrator: Snapped Mr. Grumpy.
Mr. Grumpy: And hurry up!
(The camera zooms in on her)
Narrator: Poor Mrs. Fairy, who sold cakes was frightened of Mr. Grumpy. So she did as she was told.
(The camera stops zooming in. In the background, through the shop window, Mr. Tickle is shown walking outside to the left of the screen)
Narrator: But, as she was doing she was told, guess what happened?
(Mr. Tickle's arm stretches along a blue background to the right (in a curvy fashion) and he tickles Mr. Grumpy from behind. Mr. Grumpy's hat flies off and he drops both the sausages and cake)
Mr. Grumpy: Oh!
(The cake and sausages are heard landing on the floor with a thud. The camera zooms in on Mr. Grumpy)
Narrator: Squeaked Mr. Grumpy.
(The camera continues zooming in and also spins clockwise)
Narrator: Dropping his cake and his sausages.
(The screen stops zooming in and spinning. The camera cuts outside to show a baffled Mr. Grumpy standing outside the shop carrying his sausages and cake)
Narrator: He just could not understand what was happening.
(Mr. Tickle's arm stretches along a blue background to the right (in a curvy fashion))
Narrator: And the same thing...
(Mr. Tickle is shown looking through the window of the newspaper shop and Mr. Grumpy is shown being tickled and dropping his cake, sausages, and newspaper)
Narrator: ...happened to Mr. Daily's
(The cake, newspaper, and sausages are heard landing on the floor with a thud)
Narrator: The newspaper shop.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Tickle walking inside a shop to the left)
Narrator: And Mrs. Humbug's, the sweet shop.
(The sound of Mr. Tickle tickling Mr. Grumpy is heard)
Narrator: And at Mr. Bottle's dairy...
(Mr. Tickle's arm stretches along a blue background to the right (in a curvy fashion))
Narrator: ...and at...
(Mr. Grumpy is shown being tickled and dropping his cake, sausages, sweets, newspaper, milk, and cornflakes)
Narrator: ...Mr. Packet's...
(The cake, newspaper, milk, sausages, cornflakes, and sweets are heard crashing onto the floor)
Narrator: ...the grocer's.
(Mr. Grumpy is shown inside a shop carrying his cake, newspaper, milk, sausages, cornflakes, and sweets. The camera zooms out to show Mr. Grumpy baffled by what was going in. Through the window in the background, Mr. Tickle is shown walking to the left of the screen)
Narrator: It went on all afternoon.
(The sound of Mr. Tickle tickling Mr. Grumpy is heard twice. The camera stops zooming out)
Narrator: And all afternoon, Mr. Grumpy...
(The camera cuts to Mr. Tickle's extraordinarily long arm in front of a white background. The camera pans to the right)
Narrator: ...kept being tickled.
(The camera cuts outside and zooms out to show Mr. Tickle outside a shop Mr. Tickle winks to the viewers as the camera continues zooming out and the sound of Mr. Tickle tickling Mr. Grumpy is heard. The camera then cuts to Mr. Grumpy being tickled and dropping all his shopping. The cake, newspaper, milk, sausages, cornflakes, and sweets are heard crashing onto the floor)
Narrator: Dropping his shopping...
(The camera cuts to Mr. Grumpy standing outside a shop carrying all his shopping)
Narrator: ...picking it up and...

Narrator: ...being tickled and...

(The scene transitions to Mr. Grumpy carrying his shopping and walking down the road to the right)
Narrator: On his way home to Crosspatch Cottage, he met Mr. Happy again.
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Happy standing in front of a gate and the camera zooms out to show Mr. Grumpy and Mr. Happy in the same frame)
Mr. Happy: Hello.
Narrator: Grinned Mr. Happy.
(The camera stops zooming out)
Mr. Happy: Having uh...having a nice day?
Mr. Grumpy: Get out of my way!
(Mr. Happy frowns)
Narrator: Snapped Mr. Grumpy.
Mr. Grumpy: Before I kick you!
(The camera cuts over to Mr. Grumpy)
Narrator: But...
(The camera pans over and zooms in to the left)
Narrator: ...almost before the words have passed his lips...
(The camera cuts over and zooms out from a tree)
Narrator: ...that extraordinarily long arm of Mr. Tickle's had appeared...
(The camera stops zooming out and Mr. Tickle's arm stretches into the frame to the right)
Narrator: ...from behind a tree...
(Mr. Tickle tickles Mr. Grumpy from behind)
Narrator: ...and tickled him yet again!
(Mr. Grumpy drops all his shopping. The cake, newspaper, milk, sausages, cornflakes, and sweets are heard crashing onto the floor. The camera zooms in towards Mr. Grumpy)
Narrator: He jumped in the air and dropped all his shopping, yet again.
(The camera continues zooming in then spins clockwise very quickly)
Narrator: And fell over.
(The screen fades to black as Mr. Grumpy is heard falling to the ground. The camera then cuts to Mr. Happy standing behind Mr. Grumpy as the latter lies down in all his shopping. The camera zooms out from Mr. Happy and shows the viewers the mess Mr. Grumpy is lying in. Mr. Grumpy's hat is also shown to be bent)
Narrator: Mr. Happy looked down at Mr. Grumpy lying down in a jumble of sausages, and cake, and newspapers, and sweets, and milk, and (laughs) cornflakes
(The camera stops zooming out)
Mr. Happy: (chuckles) I think...
Narrator (while laughing): He laughed.
Mr. Happy: That if, if you were to (laughs briefly) change your ways and not be quite a bad tempered quite so often, this sort of thing might not happen to quite so often.
(The camera zooms in on Mr. Grumpy and stops at Mr. Grumpy's left eye)
Mr. Grumpy: Humph!
Narrator: Grunted Mr. Grumpy.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Grumpy carrying all his shopping and walking home towards the right of the screen. The camera zooms out from Mr. Grumpy's nose)
Narrator: He picked up all his shopping yet again and went home to Crosspatch Cottage. But, on his way, he did think about what Mr. Happy said. Because...
(The camera stops zooming out)
Narrator: ...even he definitely did not like what had happened to him that afternoon.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Happy and Mr. Tickle laughing inaudibly and shaking hands in a peculiar manner. The camera zooms in on the two)
Narrator: Mr. Happy and Mr. Tickle laughed and...
(The camera stops zooming in)
Narrator: ...shook hands
(The camera pans to the left to show Mr. Happy and Mr. Tickle still laughing inaudibly and shaking hands but closer to the camera)
Narrator: And so, after that...
(The camera cuts to Mr. Meat's butcher shop where Mr. Meat is shown smiling a big smile)
Narrator: ...Mr. Grumpy did try...
(The camera zooms out to show Mr. Grumpy (without his hat on) standing in Mr. Meat's butcher shop looking at the viewers with a smile on his face)
Narrator: ...not to be quite so bad-tempered...
(Mr. Grumpy briefly looks around the shop)
Narrator: ...quite so often.
(The camera cuts outside to show Mr. Tickle tickling Mr. Grumpy. The camera zooms out from Mr. Grumpy inaudibly squealing as Mr. Tickle tickles him)
Narrator: And the more he tried, the less he found he was tickled.
(The scene transitions to Crosspatch Cottage at nighttime)
Narrator: And so he tried more and more.
(The camera zooms in towards Crosspatch Cottage)
Narrator: And these days, he's quite a changed person.
(The scene transitions to Mr. Grumpy sitting in bed with a smile on his face and holding a book in his left hand)
Narrator: Why, only the other evening, he picked up a book...
(The camera zooms out from Mr. Grumpy so he is shown in the bed)
Narrator: ...a-and you know what?
(Mr. Grumpy is shown tearing out one page in his book. The camera then cuts back to Mr. Grumpy and it slowly zooms in on him)
Narrator: He only tore out one page.
(The episode ends here)
