In the 2008 TV series The Mr. Men Show, Mr. Grumpy kept his blue colour, big dark blue nose and rectangle body, but now has an unibrow, has lines on the bottom of his nose and it's now a darker shade of blue. His top hat was replaced by a tall fedora that floats above his head, but retains its green colour with a jungle-green band around it.
Despite his grumpy attitude and unlike his book counterpart, he is relatively polite, mature and civil to anyone he talks to, easy-going, easy to please and grateful if stuff is done well, unlike his book incarnation. His grumpiness vanishes, however, when his ticklishness is exploited. He is a frequent victim of Mr. Tickle and is quite bitter about it, going so far as to invent the Tickle Protector to ward the latter off. In Amusement Park, Mr. Grumpy himself tickles Mr. Tickle after the latter said that he was going to be sick. He was given a catchphrase: "Crooked cucumbers!".
Mr. Grumpy's accent in the US version is a typical American accent, while his accent in the UK dub is West Country. He is voiced by Donald Corren (credited as Sam Gold in) the US and Simon Greenall in the UK. He is first seen in Physical.
Personality[]
Like his book counterpart, Mr. Grumpy retains his grumpy attitude, willingness to be alone, However, he is relatively polite, mature and civil to anyone he talks to, easy-going, easy to please and grateful if stuff is done well.
Trivia[]
- In direct contrast to his original counterpart, who hated books and would tear all the pages out of them as a display of his bad temper, in the Mr. Men Show, Mr. Grumpy likes books and is often seen reading them as one of his hobbies, even writing his own autobiography in Dance, which he goes on to publish in Books.
- He lives next door to Mr. Happy in the Mr. Men Show.
- His conflict with Mr. Stubborn appears to be worse than his other conflicts.
- He answers questions right as seen in Music (though in the UK version, he got his bonus wrong while in the US, he remarked about Miss Sunshine's playing the piano).
- His favourite pastime is fishing and watching fishing-related shows.
- His favourite food is liverwurst/liver sausage, as mentioned in Beach, Construction, Picnics and Pests (in the US version).
- He is one of the two characters to have worn a towel, the other being Mr. Quiet.
- He sometimes calls characters without saying Mr. or Miss when he is cross or fed up with them, mostly this with Mr. Stubborn and Mr. Scatterbrain. This also happens with Mr. Bump in Fish, Mr. Bounce in Travel, Mr. Nervous in Toys, plus Mr. Noisy in Getting Around and also Mr. Rude in Post Office, as well as Mr. Quiet in Pirates, Mr. Happy in Next Door, and even Mr. Strong in Parks. This has not happened to Mr. Tickle and Miss Chatterbox.
- He is a picky eater, (sometimes) but not as picky as Mr. Stubborn (mentioned in Lunch)
- He seems to be a fan favourite across the Mr. Men Show fandom.
- According to the air date of the Birthday episode, his birthday is March 5, "every year".
- In Flying, Mr. Grumpy says he's worked as a flight attendant for 30 years. At the time of the episode's release in 2008, it was a reference to when his book first released, in 1978
- He and Mr. Bump are the only two characters to appear in 102 out of the 104 episodes. He is absent in Seashore and Night.
