Mr. Happy is the first episode of the Classic series, and it's the first episode overall. It is based on the book of the same name. It was first broadcast on BBC1 in the United Kingdom on the New Year's Eve from 31 December, 1974 until the end of the year, 1974.

Summary[]

The story begins with an introduction to Happyland and all the happy creatures who live in the land.

The viewers are soon introduced to Mr. Happy and his story begins with him going for a walk in Happyland's woods near his house. During his walks, he discovers a small door at the bottom of a tree trunk. He then goes through the door, and down a small staircase, where he finds a room at the bottom. Mr. Miserable resides inside the room, and he looks exactly like Mr. Happy, except with a big frown instead of a big smile. Mr. Happy takes Mr. Miserable out with him and invites him to stay in Happyland for a while.

Overtime, Mr. Miserable starts becoming less sad and more happy, when he eventually becomes just as happy as Mr. Happy, and laughing a lot with him. The story ends with a message to tell the narrator that if they are ever sad, to simply turn up the corners of their mouth.
