Synopsis[]
Mr. Strong loves eggs but their are so many eggboxes left over from his breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner, and even dessert! Here's a way to recycle those eggboxes and make something fun for young readers.
Instructions[]
What You Will Need[]
- 2 carboard eggboxes
- 2X16 cm length of 6mm dowelling
- 4 empty cotton reels
- 4 drawing pins
- 11 used matchsticks
- 2 sweet tube caps
- 1 button
- 2 wire paper clips
- Coloured papers
- Tin foil
- 2.5 cm wide clear adhesive tape
- Latex glue
- Scissors
- Ruler and pencil
- Non-toxic powdered paints and felt pens
What To Do[]
To Make the Buggy[]
- Gather everything you will need. including both egg boxes.
- Cut off part of the lid from the first box. Close the remaining lid section to form the bonnet. Cut away side flap, leaving part under the bonnet for form bonnet clip
- Cut lid and flap off the second box and set aside. Cut the base across section dividers to form the seats and headlights.
- Paint all the parts you have prepared in the first 3 steps. For best results, mix paint into a thick cream.
- Paint the four cotton reels which will be the wheels. Since most cotton reels are made of plastic, you may find it difficult to get the paint to stick at first. Simply apply a thin coat of paint first and allow to dry. Then apply the second, thicker coat of paint.
To Assemble the Buggy[]
- Using a sharp pencil, make small holes in buggy base (8 in total). Push a matchstick through holes A-B. Repeat until 4 pins are in place
- Take two ready-cut lengths of dowelling, one for each axel. Slide a cotton reel on to one end of each axel. Push a drawing pin into end.
- Holding wheel at one end, guide axel through front set of axel "pins" as far as it will go. Slide on second cotton reel and push drawing pin into end. Repeat for back axel
- With bonnet open, fit seat section into the base with the shaped edge nearest the bonnet. Close bonnet.
- Glue front of bonnet and inside edge of headlight section. When both surfaces are tacky, press firmly together. Leave to dry. For lights, glue two sweet tube caps on to the front of the headlight section.
- Once all dry, your buggy is ready to go!
