Overview[]
What is a First Name? (C'est quoi, un prénom ? in French) is a short story about questions and to understand why in the I Grow Up with the Mr. Men and Little Miss series.
It was released in April 1999, and then re-released in 2000.
Summary[]
Mr. Chatterbox answers the question about why people have first names, saying "Your first name is the name people call you by. Valentine, Hugo, Guillaume, Baptiste, Pauline, Camille, etc. Your parents chose it for you before you were born. Believe me, it wasn't easy! Because, imagine, there are hundreds and hundreds of first names. Names for girls, and names for boys. And names that suit both girls and boys. Each country has its own first names, but if you want, you can give a name that comes from another country. Besides, there are first names that exist in every country, except they're not pronounced or spelled the same way. You can give your children any name you want. But of course, you can't call them Casserole or Stethoscope or Turlututu. Luckily! Imagine if your name was... BLA... BLA..." while sympathizing with the reader.
