Overview[]
Why Can't We Take Back What We Gave? (Pourquoi ne peut-on pas reprendre ce qu'on a donné ? in French) is a short story about learning manners and how to live together in the I Grow Up with the Mr. Men and Little Miss series.
It was released in May 1999, and then re-released in 2000.
Summary[]
We know we like having things what we have from others, but taking it back is stealing, so Mr. Mean answers the self-titled question, saying "Don't you know the proverb? "To give is to give. To take back is to steal." Something is yours. To please someone, you give them that thing. From that moment on, it no longer belongs to you. It belongs to the person you gave it to! That means you have to think for five minutes before giving something! Giving is very kind. But only when you give from the heart. Because if, afterward, you regret it... it causes trouble! Too bad! Even if you're angry with someone, you can't ask them back for the gifts you gave them!" while sympathizing with the reader.
